On a sideway off Onari Street in Kamakura is a bakery named Lilian. They started about 3 years ago, but I didn't know it until recently because I seldom take this way. A variety of smallish bread is displayed in front of the window that all look attractive. As Bigot, mon boulanger quotidien, was somehow closed on the day, I came to get some here to try and bought a walnut bread, a maccha/bean paste, a croissant, and a baguette. The sweeter ones had an appeal like Japanese cakes in the style and flavor, and I thought it would go well as alternative companions with green tea. The French bread, including croissant, tended to contain more water in the dough as it seemed, characteristically somewhat sticky than crispy, which is Japanese-French in my definition.

Lilian Kamakura

Suzuに通ってます - Visits repeat to Suzu
At least once every month recently we visit Suzu in Koshigoe, lunches or dinners, and our guests are always happy with no exception. The entire atmosphere is basic and domestic, but their presentation is breathtaking as usual.

北軽のtags - Café in Kita-Karuizawa
During the buddhist holidays in mid August, we visited our son's atelier in Tsumagoi, and he took us to lunch at a nearby café called tags in Kita-Karuizawa. Their lunch plate included French toast, a slice of bacon, and the salad of local vegetables. The veges were excellent, and in the small glass bowl (left end in pix) are wild cucumbers that we have never seen before. If the plate looks insufficient for you, the curry with rice would be a better alternative. They had a large and serious espresso machine, and the interior with some modernism furniture had warm, relaxing atmosphere. By the window facing to the garden was a solid and beautiful cherry tree counter top.
